Karl Lehenbauer is an investor and seasoned technology leader best known as the principal architect behind FlightAware’s real-time flight-tracking platform, with decades designing mission-critical systems across aerospace, power generation, and oilfield domains. An Internet pioneer, he founded and sold the first ISP in the Southern United States in the 1990s and was an early contributor to Tcl, numerous extensions, and Apache/open-source Internet protocols dating back to the mid-1980s. He has held CTO roles at multiple startups, served as FlightAware CTO for many years, and now advises Collins Aerospace while investing through Sand Hill Angels. Beyond software and systems, he applies the same engineering rigor to competitive motorsports—winning the 2015 Texas Region NASA Super Unlimited points championship—and is an avid cyclist, kayaker, and Trans-Am instructor-driver.
