Abdul Jawad is an engineer with a Ph.D. in Computational Media and a decade of experience bridging AI, large-scale simulation, and game development. He has built production-grade AV simulation tooling—authoring CogMod for human driver behavior and a procedural OpenDRIVE road generator—and now accelerates continuous testing of perception and planning at Motional. As a co-founder of a game studio, he shipped culturally impactful mobile games with tens of millions of downloads and developed engineering solutions like a Unity obfuscator and asset optimizations. His work spans Python, C++, C#, Unity and Unreal, and he combines research publications and peer review with hands-on mentorship of student researchers. Notably, he applies reinforcement learning and emergent scenario generation to produce realistic, city-scale AV testbeds that tighten the gap between simulated and real-world behavior.
