Abe Jellinek is a multidisciplinary software engineer with 11 years of experience who combines a Computer Science foundation from UC Berkeley with deep humanistic study in History and Arabic. Based in New York, he contributes to open-source tooling—most notably enhancing Zotero translators by adding automated full-text PDF extraction for Project MUSE—showing strength in JavaScript, API integrations, and metadata handling. Abe's background in Arabic language and Palestinian history, alongside technical work, gives him a rare ability to bridge cultural research needs and practical engineering solutions. He ships pragmatic back-end features that improve scholarly workflows and is comfortable navigating both academic and developer communities.

Role in this project:

Back-end Developer

Contributions:263 reviews, 467 commits, 626 PRs in 1 year 8 months

Contributions summary:Abe's commits focus on implementing features for downloading full-text PDFs from the Project MUSE. The primary task involved modifying existing JavaScript code within the "Project MUSE.js" translator file to download full text PDFs. The user added functionalities that extracted full-text PDFs with the addition of the "attachments" for each record. This demonstrates proficiency in manipulating JavaScript code, understanding API interactions with external document sites, and working with the specifics of a Zotero translator.
