Top SchoolAdam Steel is a seasoned software engineer and leader with 12 years of experience building scalable web platforms and teams, currently at Shopify after leading engineering at TrueCoach by Xplor. He has deep backend expertise—particularly in Ruby/Rails, Postgres, and distributed service design—and a track record delivering production-grade systems like enterprise attribute-based access control and fraud-detection automation. Adam has led teams from hands-on tech lead roles to VP-level leadership, growing products to hundreds of thousands of monthly users and multimillion-dollar ARR while maintaining operational reliability. He pairs product-focused engineering with strong cross-functional collaboration across Product, Design, and Support, and often mentors engineers and shapes hiring and architecture decisions. Notably, his background includes running large-scale field operations and budgets in outdoor education, giving him uncommon experience in logistics, safety, and people management for a technologist. Based in Louisville/Boulder, Colorado, he brings pragmatic engineering judgment and a bias for shipping resilient, maintainable systems.
