Top SchoolAkeem Smith is a Staff Engineer based in Austin with three years of hands-on experience building full-stack, data-driven systems and developer tooling. He has driven backend architecture and data pipelines at GEICO—designing reusable schemas, Airflow/DBT workflows that process 50M+ rows daily, and integrations with Snowflake, Kubernetes, and S3-compatible storage—work that directly reduced regulatory risk and operational cost. Comfortable across React, TypeScript, Java (Spring Boot), Python, and Linux automation, he has improved performance and reliability (e.g., a 27% throughput gain and 40% lower DB load) while mentoring junior engineers. Prior roles at Swell and startups show a focus on maintainability: migrating CI to GitHub Actions, converting large codebases to TypeScript, and increasing test coverage with Playwright and Jest. An active open-source-minded builder, he publishes projects on GitHub and balances pragmatic engineering with a taste for big, beautiful systems—when not hiking remote trails, writing sci-fi, or exploring open-world games.
