Aki Braun
Founder at Ecma International
Netherlands
Summary
🤩
RockstarAki Braun is a founder and standards-focused technology consultant with 12 years of experience building developer-facing products and leading engineering teams across payments and web platforms. He has driven SDK and platform engineering at Braintree/PayPal, scaled teams through rapid growth and restructures, and later moved into standards leadership as TC39 technical secretary and Ecma Internet Standards consultant shaping the future of JavaScript. Now leading Expert Zebra BV and advising ETSI on cybersecurity requirements for VPNs under the EU Cyber Resilience Act, he blends product engineering pragmatism with policy-grade standards work. Aki is equally comfortable shipping code—front-end, mobile, and backend—and navigating high-level governance between SDOs, governments, and industry. He brings a rare combination of hands-on optimization (from Mozilla and campaign work to SDKs) and strategic oversight, often translating complex technical debates into practical implementations. Based in the Netherlands, he quietly amplifies global interoperability and security by aligning language design, developer tooling, and regulatory requirements.
