Alejandro Soto is a Lead Scientist based in Boulder with 13 years advancing planetary atmospheric science and spaceflight instrument development. He blends hands-on engineering from early roles at JPL and Lockheed with deep research—holding a PhD from Caltech—and has contributed to missions including Deep Impact and Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. His work couples general circulation and mesoscale models to probe climate dynamics, atmospheric collapse, and surface–atmosphere interactions on Mars, Titan and terrestrial exoplanets. At Southwest Research Institute he leads development and operation of optical instruments that translate model predictions into new observations. Colleagues value his rare combination of systems engineering experience and theoretical insight, particularly his work linking climate models to groundwater and mesoscale processes.
