Senior🎓
Top SchoolAleksandr Kovalev is a Lead Software Engineer with 11 years of experience building backend systems—distributed services, databases, APIs and data pipelines—across companies like Booking.com and payment and IoT startups. He has led cross-functional teams and large integrations (notably hotel availability and connectivity APIs), and is comfortable with systems at scale using Java, Python, RocksDB, Kafka, Cassandra and more. After a deliberate career break spent deepening Rust skills and pursuing SCUBA, freediving, chess and competitive badminton, he’s eager to bring renewed focus to a new engineering challenge. His background in mathematics underpins a pragmatic approach to complex problems and migrations, from policy-system rewrites to metadata-cluster design that improved update propagation. Based in Amsterdam, he blends hands-on implementation with technical leadership and a consistent track record of delivering reliable, scalable backend platforms.
