Senior🎓
Top SchoolAlex Franken is a contracting software engineer and engineering leader with over two decades of experience building scalable, observable enterprise systems across startups and Fortune 100 companies. He combines hands-on architecture and hands-on delivery—designing high-throughput eventing platforms, refactoring legacy Java stacks into Spring Boot/Kotlin microservices, and driving DevOps adoption across teams. At Salesforce he optimized event ingestion for billions of daily events and at American Express he implemented OpenTelemetry-based observability and trace propagation strategies that reduced mean time to resolution. He’s led cross-functional programs (e.g., Nike Connected Membership) that span product, data engineering, and platform teams, and has deep experience with cloud-native stacks (GCP, Kafka, Kubernetes, BigQuery) and CI/CD. An active backend contributor, he modernized OHDSI WebAPI by integrating Spring Boot and upgrading its Vocabulary Service, reflecting a taste for practical infrastructure improvements. Based in Zionsville, Indiana, Alex is known for mentoring high-performing teams and instilling extreme ownership while preferring pragmatic, minimally invasive solutions that deliver measurable business value.
