Senior🎓
Top SchoolAlex Hockey is a senior software engineer and tech lead with nearly two decades of experience designing and delivering high-performance, reliable backend systems for both cloud and local deployments. He has led teams at Microsoft and Metaswitch, owning architecture, roadmaps, and some of the hardest technical problems—especially around Kubernetes, service meshes, observability, and large-scale data ingestion. Alex combines hands-on coding across languages (including Rust, C/C++, Python) with people leadership, mentoring, and a track record of driving testing and delivery improvements that reduced defects substantially. He is an inventor on multiple patent filings and has influenced division-level IP decisions, reflecting a knack for practical innovation as well as execution. Outside work he channels his analytical rigor into competitive board and card gaming and precision hobbies like model painting and cocktail crafting, a hint at both his creativity and attention to detail. Based in London with a Cambridge MSci in Physics, he brings rare depth in systems engineering paired with strong mentorship and cross-team collaboration.
