Top SchoolAlex May is a Staff Software Engineer and former CTO with 15 years of full-stack experience building products from seed-stage startups to Fortune 50 enterprises. He co-founded and scaled Blackbird Studios, recruiting and mentoring 40+ cross-functional practitioners while delivering 60+ projects spanning regulated healthcare and finance, IoT systems, animation-heavy frontends, and emergent spaces like blockchain. Technically fluent in TypeScript, React, Node.js, Ruby on Rails, GraphQL and AWS (including serverless patterns), he combines hands-on implementation with an opinionated delivery process that prioritizes steady, high-confidence shipping and team well-being. Now at Rippling, he blends product-minded engineering with operational leadership, bringing a rare mix of hardware-rooted simulation experience and modern cloud-native web practice.
