Staff Application Security Engineer
Canada
Summary
🤩
RockstarAlex Richter is a Senior Application Security Engineer with a decade of experience securing developer-facing platforms and APIs, currently focused on application security at Huntress after a multi-year tenure at Shopify. At Shopify he progressed from customer and developer support into application security, giving him a rare blend of frontline product empathy and deep technical security practice. He specializes in bridging developer experience with secure engineering—helping teams ship APIs and integrations that are both usable and resilient. Based in Canada, Alex brings practical incident awareness from support roles into threat modelling, code review, and secure design conversations. Known on GitHub simply as an appsec practitioner, he emphasizes pragmatic, developer-friendly security controls rather than blocking workflows. Colleagues describe him as a hands-on security engineer who translates complex risks into actionable, product-aligned guidance.
