Senior🎓
Top SchoolAlexander Gunkel is a seasoned senior software developer and freelancer based in Leipzig with over a decade of experience building maintainable, extensible systems primarily in C++, Go and PHP across Linux environments from bare metal to Docker. He blends hands-on implementation with a strong interest in software architecture, advocating SOLID principles, Domain-Driven Design and security- and privacy-by-design. His background spans industry roles at CHECK24 and Netresearch as well as academic research and teaching positions, giving him a rare mix of practical engineering and formal analytical training. Alexander values sustainable, long-lived code that reduces future maintenance pain and delights teams over time. Trained in philosophy with advanced research credentials, he brings a methodical, logic-oriented approach to design decisions and trade-offs. As a generalist rather than a lone-specialist, he is comfortable owning cross-cutting concerns from low-level system details to high-level architecture.
