NetDEF / OpenSourceRouting CI System
Summary
🤩
RockstarAlistair Woodman is a seasoned technology executive and board member with over 30 years of experience shaping networking and routing products from hands-on engineering to strategic product leadership. Based in Sunnyvale, he has led large-scale product organizations at Cisco—building VoIP, carrier-grade routing and L4–7 services that drove billion-dollar revenues—and later focused on open source routing and tooling as an independent consultant and investor. He currently serves on the boards of the Erlang Ecosystem Foundation and NetDEF, advocating for community-driven development around BEAM languages and FRRouting/CI workflows. Comfortable bridging deep technical detail and business strategy, he has a track record of incubating new architecture (non-stop distributed routing) and shepherding standards adoption across global carriers. His academic background spans physics, robotics and data communications from Oxford, Imperial College and Hamburg, a blend that underpins his long-standing interest in complex systems and automation. Less obvious: he shifted from product-scale telecom systems to nurturing open-source infrastructure, combining institutional experience with grassroots community building.
