Top SchoolAlly Piechowski is an independent principal software engineer based in Seattle with 11 years of experience turning neglected, high-debt codebases into maintainable, forward-moving systems. She specializes in Ruby on Rails architecture, legacy migrations, and environment optimization, routinely upgrading dependencies and refactoring without breaking existing APIs. Her background spans hands-on driver and networking work—writing load-balancing algorithms and patching Intel Ethernet drivers—through to leading teams and coordinating complex cloud deployments with Terraform, AWS, and Buildkite. She’s delivered large migrations (MySQL→Postgres) and major Rails upgrades with minimal downtime, and consults on polyglot code reviews and system hardening. Outside engineering, she hiked over 3,500 miles in 2024, a detail that reflects her persistence and comfort with long-term, demanding projects.
