Amanda Regan is an Assistant Professor of History and Geography at Clemson University who blends digital history methods with deep expertise in late-19th and 20th-century U.S. women’s and gender history. Her book manuscript, Shaping Up: Physical Fitness for Women 1880–1965 (under contract with University of Virginia Press), interrogates how female fitness became a national preoccupation across the twentieth century. She co-directs the NEH-funded Mapping the Gay Guides project, turning Bob Damron’s travel guides into analyzable spatial data to reveal hidden queer geographies—work that mirrors her longstanding digital-history practice from the Center for History and New Media. With a PhD from George Mason and over a decade of teaching and fellowship experience, she combines archival rigor with computational approaches to make marginalized communities and embodied histories more visible.
