Top SchoolAmmon Shepherd is a seasoned technologist with 15+ years building and operating web systems, teaching web backend development, and managing university makerspaces. As Makespace Manager and Lead Research Technologist at the University of Virginia, he blends hands-on systems administration, research support, and community-facing workshops to enable faculty and students to prototype and publish digital scholarship. His background includes high-traffic LAMP operations, Linux security and monitoring, and developing geospatial and digital humanities tools in collaborative R&D environments. Comfortable both as an instructor and as an infrastructure troubleshooter, he pairs academic rigor (ABD PhD work in history) with practical engineering to turn complex scholarly projects into reliable, well-documented services. Notably, he has sustained long-term open-source and research collaborations while running production servers and mentoring makerspace users across disciplines.
