Senior🎓
Top SchoolAndrew Cotton is a Staff Software Engineer with 14 years of experience building back-end systems and optimizing distributed applications, currently driving efficiency and sustainability at Flock Freight. He blends deep Java and cloud-native expertise—Spring, Quarkus, AWS Lambdas, Redis, MySQL—with hands-on DevOps and architecture work across greenfield and legacy migrations. His background in linguistics and language instruction gives him a rare sensitivity for building clear interfaces and integrations, especially for event-driven services and multilingual or cross-cultural products. He has led performance and testing initiatives, introduced CI/CD migrations, and implemented caching and messaging strategies that improved reliability and scalability. Based in San Diego, he is equally comfortable in code-level problem solving and cross-team collaboration, often surfacing practical developer tools and processes that reduce friction. Outside engineering, his language training and international teaching experience inform a people-first approach to mentorship and product design.
