Top SchoolAndrew Smith is an arts nonprofit leader and composer with 14 years of experience building experimental performance ecosystems, currently serving as Executive Director of The Lab in San Francisco. He has founded and grown Indexical from a composers' collective into a 501(c)(3) presenter and venue that programs 60+ events and commissions substantial new work annually, demonstrating skill in fundraising, operations, and artistic strategy. His background blends hands-on production and donor relations at organizations like Seattle Symphony and ISSUE Project Room with academic depth—a D.M.A. in Music Composition—and a research-driven compositional practice focused on psychoacoustics and the intersection of language and music. Known for commissioning ambitious projects and running artist-centered spaces, he pairs administrative rigor with curatorially adventurous programming that expands audiences and supports long-term artistic risk.
