Summary
Ari Okkonen is a veteran software engineer and managing director with over four decades of experience in embedded real-time systems, industrial control, and web services, currently leading OBP Research Oy. He has designed and implemented operating systems, device drivers, graphical UIs, and automated code-generation tooling—authoring his first preemptive real-time kernel in 1974—and later applied that expertise to projects from pulp mill automation to mobile UI process improvements at Nokia. More recently he delivered an MVP building monitoring system using Raspberry Pi, MongoDB and web technologies and contributed FIWARE POI services as open source. Ari blends hands-on development (C/C++, Java, PHP, JavaScript, Prolog) with process and toolchain innovation, and he still experiments with language/runtime work such as a Prolog subset interpreter in Java. Based in Oulu, he pairs deep low-level knowledge with practical product delivery and a long history of teaching real-time design in industry and academia.
