Bart Bruininks is a molecular dynamics postdoctoral researcher based in Groningen with a decade of experience developing coarse-grained models for lipids, proteins and DNA, including contributions to Martini3 DNA. Trained at the University of Groningen (MSc cum laude, PhD under Siewert Jan Marrink), he combines computational model development with close collaboration with experimental groups to tackle membrane pores, lipid–DNA complexes and bacterial membrane systems. His work includes international research stays at NIH and Los Alamos, focusing on data visualization and membrane protein simulations. Curious and broadly skilled rather than narrowly specialized, he pairs a generalist’s understanding across disciplines with hands-on technical depth in simulation methods. Outside the lab he prototypes electronics and composes music, a hint at his pragmatic creativity and tinkering approach to scientific problems.
