Top SchoolBen Hutton is a Staff Software Engineer with 14 years’ experience building full-stack products and leading teams to deliver user-focused, production-grade systems. He blends hands-on engineering with strategic leadership—having reported to C-suite, led specification work at Postman, and driven API governance and developer experience transformations at The Guild Software and Sanger. A long-time core contributor and TSC member for JSON Schema, Ben helped publish a widely adopted standard, built a ~9k-member community Slack, and secured major conference sponsorships via OpenCollective. He thrives where technical decisions have multiplied downstream impact, whether for end customers, developer ecosystems, or research collaborations. Comfortable switching hats from architect to workshop facilitator (including Masters-level teaching at Cambridge), he pairs pragmatic implementation skills across languages and frameworks with a habit of foregrounding user personas and journeys. Based in Ely, UK, Ben is known for turning messy, long-standing problems—like CI/CD and breaking-change detection—into reliable, scalable solutions.
