Benedikt Groß is a strategic and computational designer with 11+ years of practice bridging academia, industry and open source, currently Co-Programme Director for the MA Strategic Design and Professor of Strategic Design at HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd. He combines a Royal College of Art MA in Design Interactions and MIT Senseable City Lab experience with a track record of leading research labs (AI+D Lab) and design teams in product-focused settings like moovel and FREE NOW. Co-author of the widely used Generative Gestaltung, his work spans generative art, data visualization and human–technology relations, earning awards from Prix Ars Electronica to Information is Beautiful. As a hands-on developer he contributes to notable open-source projects such as the generative-design p5.js code package and the OpenMoji asset pipeline, improving tooling and workflows for designers and developers. He runs a studio since 2013, blending speculative design with practical engineering to prototype socio-technical systems and shape curricula. Based in Ravensburg, Germany, he is driven by curiosity about how people, data and environments co-evolve—often expressed through interdisciplinary, antidisciplinary collaborations.
