Benjamin Labbe is an Ingénieur de Recherche at CEA LIST with over a decade of experience translating academic R&D into industrial-scale multimedia search and analysis systems. He combines deep expertise in NLP, semantic search, CBIR and image embedding with practical skills in deployment technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, FastAPI and ElasticSearch to deliver production-ready solutions for millions of documents and images. His PhD work on pattern recognition for infrared surveillance laid a foundation in robust supervised classification and feature design that still informs his work on noisy, real-world data and low-SNR imagery. Benjamin has led more than 15 technology-transfer projects and often acts as technical project lead, bridging research, engineering and industrial needs. He routinely blends symbolic and statistical approaches—NER, sentence-transformers, vector stores, RAG and LLMs—with computer-vision techniques to build semantically structured discovery pipelines. Based in Gif-sur-Yvette, he is as comfortable optimizing HPC C/C++ code as he is orchestrating cloud-native APIs for end users.
