Bigyan Karki is a co-founder and Masters student in Computing Science at the University of Alberta with nine years of engineering experience focused on reinforcement learning and scalable web architectures. He has blended academic research—optimizing AlphaZero for Chinese checkers using JAX/Haiku/Optax and exploring transfer learning—with hands-on teaching as a graduate TA for web application and architecture courses. At Amii and during a DAAD RISE internship in Munich he translated research into applied solutions, from heart anomaly detection literature reviews to creating real/virtual image datasets for lighting estimation. As Co-Founder of The Drive AI, he is applying his RL and systems background to product-focused development while retaining a strong foundation in backend integration and data pipelines. Notably, he builds production-ready wrappers around research codebases to accelerate reproducibility and scaling, a skill that bridges academic results and deployable systems. Based in Edmonton, he combines entrepreneurial drive with a rare mix of deep learning research experience and practical software delivery.
