Senior🎓
Top SchoolBinsheng Liu is a Senior Machine Learning Engineer based in Melbourne with 14 years of experience blending search research, production ML and systems engineering. He holds a PhD in Information Retrieval and has moved research ideas into production at Canva and SEEK—building topical and personalized learning-to-rank models, addressing vocabulary mismatch in Elasticsearch/Lucene, and designing robust offline evaluation frameworks. Earlier in his career he led kernel- and file-system-focused teams at Huawei, shrinking and stabilizing critical modules and supervising a 300k‑loc codebase. That mix of deep IR research, hands-on C/Python systems work, and team leadership gives him a rare ability to optimize both model relevance and the low-level infrastructure that serves it. He frequently bridges academia and industry, applying generative and conversational IR research to practical job-search and product search problems.
