Senior🎓
Top SchoolBowen Song is a Staff Engineer and photonics researcher with nine years of experience designing, fabricating, and testing InP and silicon photonic integrated circuits, holding a PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from UC Santa Barbara. He has driven hybrid integration efforts—flip-chip bonding, monolithic QD lasers on silicon, and InGaAs detector arrays for SWIR—collaborating with foundries like IMEC, SmartPhotonics, and HHI. Bowen blends deep academic rigor from UCSB and industry exposure (MERL, Mitsubishi Research internship) with practical leadership roles across startups and scale-ups, including Nexus Photonics and Aeluma. He also applies AI, cloud and distributed systems thinking to hardware problems, evident from his interests in explainable AI, virtualization and data synchronization. Notably, his work spans both hands-on cleanroom PIC development and system-level data/compute orchestration for IC data operations, enabling faster translation from research prototypes to product-ready photonic platforms.
