Bret Hudson
Contract Web Developer at Bret Hudson
Seattle, Washington, United States
Summary
🤩
RockstarBret Hudson is a contract web developer based in Seattle with a decade of hands-on experience building full-stack web apps, tooling, and game-adjacent projects for clients like Devolver Digital and Bunnyhug Games. He leans front-end with a strong emphasis on developer experience, routinely refactoring code, automating workflows, and shipping internal DX improvements that reduce friction for engineers, designers, and content teams. At Vercel he improved test reliability and CI through Playwright migrations and GitHub Actions, and at Manticore he led web migrations to modern React/Next.js while mentoring engineers. He balances product-facing work with backend and infrastructure concerns—Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, and server-side rendering are part of his toolkit. A lifelong tinkerer who started in game-making tools, he’s kept that experimental streak alive by daily animation challenges and building tutorial engines. Pragmatic about shipping less but writing more maintainable code, Bret focuses on sustainable velocity over short-term hacks.
