Top SchoolBrian Ip is an engineering manager specializing in infrastructure and online datastores, with 12 years of experience building and operating large-scale database platforms. At Square he advanced from software engineer to manager, leading migrations of MySQL and Redis fleets to AWS Aurora and ElastiCache while reducing downtime and enforcing strong security and reliability practices. He scaled and mentored a team from 5 to 16 engineers, intentionally hiring across junior-to-senior levels to create a sustainable growth pipeline and improve cross-team collaboration. Known for pragmatic automation, he built failover, security, and reshuffling services that guaranteed data consistency and near-zero downtime during operational changes. Now at Anrok, he continues to focus on scalable, reliable infrastructure in the San Francisco Bay Area. His background from Carnegie Mellon and early hands-on roles gives him deep systems instincts coupled with people-first leadership.
