Top SchoolBrian Mathews is a Staff Software Engineer and designer based in Seattle with a decade-plus track record building and shipping over 40 production web applications for high-profile clients like Wikipedia, Nike, the USPTO, and Stripe. He spans full-stack development—crafting pixel-perfect designs and live style guides, implementing performant SPAs with React/Polymer/Angular, and delivering secure back ends in Express/Koa/Rails/Flask—then containerizing and deploying via Docker and Terraform. Known for obsessive attention to detail, he blends a designer’s eye for UX and animation with rigorous, test-driven engineering to produce accessible, well-documented components and UI frameworks. His debugging chops and measurement-first approach make him the go-to engineer for tracking down tricky production issues quickly. Notably, he has shipped large CSS frameworks and style guides used by hundreds of developers at the USPTO, demonstrating an ability to scale design systems across organizations.
