Carlos Massera is a technology leader and co-founder/CTO with a decade of experience building autonomous vehicle systems, from academic research to production at Motional and Lyft. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in vehicle control and machine learning for ADAS and AGVs, he led development of the first vehicle to autonomously drive on Brazilian public roads and partnered with Scania on autonomous semi-trucks for mining. His background spans embedded hardware, asynchronous ASIC design, Ruby on Rails web applications, and remote telemetry, reflecting a rare combination of low-level systems and high-level software. At Apple’s Special Projects Group and later at leading AV teams, he delivered planning, control, localization and remote assistance platforms that bridged research and deployment. Based in Pittsburgh, he blends academic rigor with startup execution, often translating novel control research into real-world safety and efficiency improvements.
