Chad Lin is a PhD candidate in Mathematics and Computer Science at the Australian Institute for Machine Learning with eight years of experience building perception and mapping systems for robotics and autonomous driving. Previously an Associate Researcher at ITRI, he led development of HD map data collection tools and implemented pose-graph optimization using Ceres to improve lidar scan matching and absolute map accuracy across hundreds of kilometers of mapping. He combines mechanical and robotics training with hands-on software engineering—delivering sensor-disconnection handlers, interactive map viewers, and annotation pipelines that supported traffic-light detection and controller modules. Based in Adelaide but with production experience in Taiwan and Melbourne, Chad is a proactive collaborator who seeks research challenges that translate directly to real-world robotic systems. An educator at heart, he has also taught outreach courses to elevate high-school STEM engagement, reflecting a talent for clear communication across technical and nontechnical audiences.
