Christopher Willits is an immersive music artist, guitarist, and co-founder of Envelop, building spatial audio experiences and open-source tools that surround listeners with 32-speaker soundscapes. With a decades-long career on the Ghostly International roster, he has produced a diverse catalog spanning introspective solo albums, widescreen audiovisuals, and collaborative projects that foreground presence and transformation. Based in San Francisco, he pairs creative practice with education—teaching graduate and undergraduate courses and developing long-running sound-design curricula across multiple institutions. As director of Envelop he translates artistic vision into scalable live listening environments and community-focused events. His work is guided by an artist’s manifesto of music-as-medicine, and he intentionally cultivates practices of letting go so his compositions can catalyze personal and social change. An MFA-trained multidisciplinary practitioner, he blends technical spatial audio knowledge with a long history of teaching and production that few recording artists sustain.
