Senior🎓
Top SchoolCorey Runkel is a data engineer with eight years of experience building reliable, user-focused data tools and processes in transportation, retail, and academia. He pairs strong communication and people leadership—managing teams through acquisitions and coaching analysts—with hands-on engineering, from serverless DuckDB catalogs and Databricks pipeline templating to lightweight AWS Python ETL. At MBTA he scaled a data catalog user base fourfold and introduced runtime type checking to speed root-cause analysis, while at Valtech he drove CI adoption and automated demand forecasting that cut fulfillment time by 17%. His research background includes developing R packages and systems that saved research teams dozens of hours per week, reflecting a habit of turning messy, manual workflows into auditable, reproducible pipelines. An outdoorsy problem-solver who rock climbs and road bikes in Cambridge, he also leverages AI coding assistants pragmatically to accelerate onboarding and MVP delivery.
