Top SchoolCoty Sutherland is a Senior Software Engineering Manager with 13 years of experience leading remote teams to deliver enterprise web and application servers in C and Java, currently managing a 12-engineer team at IBM. He combines hands-on development and release ownership with people-first leadership, remaining an active Apache Tomcat committer and PMC member who still contributes bug fixes and documentation to one of the web server ecosystem’s most critical open-source projects. Coty’s background spans hands-on support, CI/CD improvements, and coordinated CVE responses at Red Hat, giving him deep operational context for production reliability and customer-facing escalations. Recently he’s been exploring AI tooling—RAG, local models, and automation—with a particular interest in making productivity tools more inclusive for neurodiverse users. He’s proven at bridging upstream open-source governance (ASF, Fedora) with downstream product delivery, and he’s passionate about mentoring, speaking, and building things that last. Located in North Carolina, he looks for leadership roles that blend Java, Python, AI, and community-driven engineering.
