Craig Jones is a multidisciplinary professor and research scientist with 12+ years building and applying machine learning to medical imaging, from neuroradiology stroke detection and brain segmentation to spine vertebrae labeling and federated learning. He combines deep academic output—60+ peer-reviewed papers—with hands-on software engineering, having built cloud-hosted Django/Python systems used by 23+ fire stations and contributed production-grade Python tools for Hubble/James Webb data pipelines. At Johns Hopkins he co-directed the Radiology AI Lab and mentored graduate students on neural-network research; he now leads biomedical engineering efforts at the University of Alberta and is an AMII Fellow. His work spans the full stack of translational research: model uncertainty, online learning, registration pipelines and the software that moves algorithms into clinical settings. Notably, he pairs astrophysics-scale data engineering experience from STScI with decades of MRI-focused algorithm development, giving him a rare blend of scientific rigor and pragmatic system delivery.
