Cyrill Stachniss is a Full Professor at the University of Bonn and Visiting Professor at Oxford who leads the Photogrammetry and Robotics Lab, specializing in probabilistic perception, state estimation, and SLAM for mobile and agricultural robots as well as autonomous vehicles. With over 250 publications and a career spanning Freiburg and ETH Zurich, he combines deep academic credentials (PhD and habilitation) with hands-on leadership of large EU and DFG projects, including digitizing Roman catacombs and the PhenoRob excellence cluster. A Microsoft Research Faculty Fellow and IEEE RAS Early Career Award recipient, he bridges theory and application by co-founding three startups that commercialize robotic perception and phenotyping technologies. Less obvious: his work repeatedly intersects robotics, photogrammetry and phenotyping, enabling both scientific advances in mapping and practical tools for precision agriculture.
