Top SchoolDavid Keyes is a founder and data communicator based in Portland, Oregon, with eight years of experience helping organizations and individuals harness R for analysis, reporting, and visualization. He runs R for the Rest of Us, delivering public workshops, online courses, and tailored trainings that demystify powerful open-source tools and make data skills accessible. Previously he combined research, teaching, and product-building—co-founding Growing Upwards, teaching sociology and research methods, and leading evaluation projects for foundations—bringing a rare mix of academic rigor and practical instruction. His work emphasizes storytelling with data, turning complex research into clear, actionable visualizations for maximum impact. An unexpected strength is his background in early childhood education and on-the-ground field research, which informs a human-centered approach to training and design. He now also leads Clarity Data Studio to help organizations communicate more effectively with their data.
