Dishita Turakhia is an HCI researcher and faculty member whose work sits at the intersection of Human-Computer Interaction and Learning Sciences, focused on designing systems that teach physical skills—from motor and fabrication skills to maker practices—using ubiquitous sensing, AR/VR/XR, and generative AI. She earned a PhD in EECS from MIT with a minor in Brain and Cognitive Science and holds multiple master’s degrees bridging computation and architecture, reflecting a rare blend of technical rigor and spatial-design sensibility. Her lab-scale entrepreneurship includes raising over $2.2M in grants (including NSF awards and MIT ILI support) and a Meta PhD Research Fellowship, signaling both scholarly impact and fundable, applied directions. Before academia she practiced as a licensed architect and co-led a design firm, contributing computational design and award-winning projects across London, Singapore, Bern and Mumbai. Now based in New York as HCI faculty at NYU Tandon, she brings eight years of interdisciplinary research and industry experience to building immersive, practice-oriented learning technologies. A less obvious strength is her ability to translate architectural fabrication workflows into sensor-driven learning interventions, enabling novel ways to teach hands-on skills.
