Dr. Steven Combs is a higher education leader and former military officer with decades of experience advancing academic programs, operational leadership, and workforce-aligned curriculum across Ivy Tech Community College’s statewide system. He currently serves as Chancellor for the Columbus campus and recently held the Interim Provost and Senior Vice President role, driving initiatives like IvyOnline redefinition, WorkDay Student implementation, and baccalaureate integration. A full professor since 1993, his career blends hands-on technical teaching in advanced manufacturing and industrial technologies with strategic roles in instructional technology, program development, and accreditation. Before academia he spent 27 years in uniform across the Air Force and Army, bringing command, strategic planning, and mission-focused systems experience to college leadership. Outside work he’s a runner, podcaster, blogger and retro-computing enthusiast—interests that reflect a curiosity for both community engagement and technical history. Based in Columbus, Indiana, he pairs doctoral training in higher education leadership with practical program-building and cross-sector partnership skills.
