Erik Mackdanz is a Cloud Platform Engineer with 15 years of hands-on experience designing and operating Linux-based, cloud-native systems that are easy to launch, change, and scale. He has led platform and SRE teams while remaining an individual contributor, building and managing multi-account AWS environments, 12 EKS clusters, and GitOps pipelines for ~90 applications. Erik is a Certified Kubernetes Administrator who writes pragmatic tooling—everything from Kubernetes secret generators and Datadog monitor generators to migration tools that moved GitLab into Kubernetes with zero downtime. He combines deep fundamentals (networking, release engineering, storage and messaging) with broad experience across AWS services, Cassandra/Kafka operations, and ETL/data indexing for ML. Based in Austin, he’s as comfortable training overseas teams and evangelizing DevOps practices as he is digging into low-level build and image tooling. A former music-education major, he brings a methodical, creative approach to solving operational complexity.
