Federico Covi is a glaciologist and climate scientist with nine years of experience probing atmosphere–cryosphere interactions and the energy and mass balance of alpine glaciers and ice sheets. He combines field leadership in challenging alpine and polar environments with remote sensing and numerical modeling to translate in situ measurements into regional-scale insights. His postdoctoral work includes developing and deploying an award-winning pressure-sensor method to monitor snow water equivalent across data-sparse high mountain regions and building a semi-automated Python pipeline for near-real-time SWE analysis. At UiO he revealed kilometre-scale subsurface water routing over ice slabs in Greenland by fusing Sentinel-1 SAR and Sentinel-2 imagery with field data. Now based in Bologna and working at CMCC, he brings a rare blend of hands-on instrumentation design, operational field program management, and reproducible data-processing workflows. Colleagues value his ability to turn clever observational techniques into scalable monitoring systems that address pressing cryospheric change.
