Top SchoolFernando De Carvalho is a professor and researcher with over two decades of experience designing practical, extensible information systems for finance, telecom and public sector organizations. He combines academic rigor—holding a PhD in Computer Engineering focused on optimizing memory transactions and awarded best paper at ICA3PP’13—with hands-on industry practice as a former project manager and operations leader. At ISEL and CCISEL he leads interdisciplinary teams, develops industry-facing courses, and helped launch Portugal’s first post-graduate program for programming professionals (PROMPT). His work emphasizes alternatives to traditional shared-memory synchronization in managed runtimes, reflecting a rare blend of low-level systems insight and applied software engineering. Fluent in managing cross-cultural projects and operations, he also brings executive training in management (PAGE) that informs curriculum design and project coordination. Based in Lisbon, he is equally at home in research labs and industry delivery, translating complex problems into reusable, maintainable solutions.
