Francesco Bigoni is a multidisciplinary musician-engineer and educator who coordinates the PhD programme at Siena Jazz while maintaining an active career as a saxophonist, composer and freelance instrument designer. With over 20 years as a performer and eight years of formal professional experience in academia and industry, he bridges improvisation practice, digital luthiery and interaction design. He teaches analysis of forms, ensemble work and sound processing and has guided master’s and PhD-level curricula and labs in contemporary improvisational languages. Francesco’s technical background—MSc in Sound and Music Computing and an engineering degree from DTU—underpins R&D work from microphone acoustics to custom musical interfaces. He has hands-on experience as a systems engineer and teaching assistant in machine learning and audio signal courses, giving him rare fluency across performance, research and implementation. Based in Copenhagen, he is known for turning experimental sonic ideas into practical tools and pedagogy that feed both concert stages and research labs.
