François Beaune is a rendering technology leader with over 15 years of engineering management experience and more than two decades of low-level C/C++ and x86 expertise, now directing Rendering at Adobe. He founded and continues to lead appleseed, a widely used open-source, physically based production renderer, and has a track record of shipping production GPU/CPU unified renderers, including a new engine shipped in Adobe Stager. François combines deep R&D—co-authoring a SIGGRAPH Asia paper on tessellation-free displacement—with large-scale software engineering, driving partnerships with Apple, AMD, Intel and NVIDIA. He builds and scales teams from prototype to production, routinely blending architecture, hands-on implementation and legal/partner negotiations. Fluent in English and French, he’s equally at home optimizing SIMD-heavy code as presenting technical strategy to cross-functional stakeholders. An under-the-radar strength is his sustained stewardship of Google Summer of Code and open-source governance, which has cultivated talent pipelines for his projects.
