Top SchoolFred Wenzel is a seasoned engineering executive with 15+ years building high-availability, real-time web systems and leading globally distributed teams that serve millions of users daily. As VP of Engineering he has scaled cross-functional organizations across startups and large tech companies—most recently at Kojo and Airbnb—owning everything from frontend and mobile to infrastructure, security, payments, and AI investments. He combines hands-on engineering chops (rooted in web platforms, service-oriented architectures, and cryptography interest) with a talent for empowering autonomous, high-performing teams and shipping dependable developer tooling. A long-time open source advocate and former Mozilla product and platform lead, he brings deep experience in developer ecosystems and platform design that often surfaces in pragmatic architecture choices. Based in Seattle and trained at Karlsruhe and Carnegie Mellon, he blends rigorous academic background with practical production experience dating back to early Mozilla and systems admin roots. Colleagues describe him as technically curious and unusually effective at aligning engineering craft with business impact.
