Guy Davies is an Associate Professor at the University of Birmingham and Principal Investigator of the ERC-funded CartographY project, specialising in scalable Bayesian inference, probabilistic programming, and uncertainty-aware machine learning for large, complex datasets. With over a decade of academic experience in astrophysics, he builds production-grade inference pipelines using JAX, NumPyro, PyTorch and GPU-accelerated HPC to deliver fast, interpretable parameter estimation and simulation-based inference. His work on neural emulators and hierarchical models supports both space-science missions like ESA’s PLATO and transferable industrial AI challenges, bridging rigorous uncertainty quantification with practical deployment. He teaches and supervises the next generation of researchers while collaborating widely across academia and industry, combining deep theoretical expertise with hands-on engineering at scale. An unassuming strength is his consistent focus on model reliability and interpretability—traits that make his methods especially relevant for high-stakes decision-making.
