Ignacio Expósito is a Model Risk Data Scientist based in Madrid with nine years of experience bridging academic AI research and regulated finance. He evaluates and validates a wide range of models—ML, autoregressive, statistical and stochastic—across fraud detection, compliance, macro forecasting and capital frameworks while ensuring alignment with EU AI Act, GDPR, ICAAP and IFRS9. Previously an AI researcher at Universidad de Granada, he published work in reinforcement learning, planning and graph neural networks, won first place in the ICAPS IPC 2020 Partial Order track, and led an industry project delivering a driver-assistance pipeline from ETL to deployed GUI. At Santander he also prototypes alternative modelling approaches, automates validation workflows, and is building a custom, low-resource AI-powered IDE with GenAI agents for document authoring. He combines rigorous, audit-focused model governance with hands-on engineering and a curiosity for reinforcement learning, computer vision and robotics.
