Ivan Safrin is a Director and hands-on graphics engineer with 15 years of experience building engines, tools, and interactive experiences from indie games to museum installations. He shipped the Early Access title Star Scum and architected a cross-platform C++ engine with Vulkan/OpenGL backends, a deterministic GPU-first particle system, and all in-game graphics and shader effects. Previously he led rendering and runtime work at Superbright, creating automatic lightmapping pipelines, custom PBR shaders, and a Metal engine for Apple Vision Pro, as well as AR/VR apps in Unity and WebGL. Ivan blends production leadership with deep low-level graphics expertise and a history of teaching graduate and undergraduate graphics courses, which sharpens both his technical and communication skills. He also has a track record of building bespoke tools and hardware-aware systems for creative projects, from museum APIs and CAD visualizations to interactive installations. Based in New York, he’s equally comfortable shipping multiplayer server infrastructure as he is fine-tuning a shader or solving platform portability challenges.
