Top SchoolJ Ettinger is an applied machine learning and algorithm researcher with a Ph.D. in mathematics and over 25 years of interdisciplinary experience spanning academia, national labs, and industry. He currently models neuroscientific data for epilepsy treatment while bringing prior lead data scientist work in DeFi volatility modeling and crypto-greek design, marrying rigorous theory with production-ready prototypes. Equally at home with Python, TensorFlow/PyTorch, and AWS as with MATLAB, R, and legacy systems, he has built solutions for image, speech, genomics, radar, and financial time-series data. His background in formal specification (TLA+) and Monte Carlo risk simulation underpins a practical focus on auditable, well-specified algorithms for high-stakes domains. Known for clear explanations to non-technical stakeholders and uncompromising intellectual honesty, he also explores logic, category/type theory, and contemplative traditions outside his engineering work. Based in Vermont, he combines deep theoretical insight with hands-on engineering to move complex models from research to real-world impact.
